Let me tell you something about this picture. My school apparently thinks it’s funny to make fun of Mexicans in this way. This story has made it to the local newspaper and now the students are complaining that ‘it’s just a joke’ and ‘this newspaper needs better material’. Racism is alive. So many kids are passing this off as a joke when there are actual Mexicans and other latinxs finding l offensive. This is white Privilege right here. White kids have no fucking idea what it’s like to be oppressed and think being called ‘cracker’ is a form of oppression. People think racism doesn’t exist because it doesn’t happen in a small white town but little did they know there’s a whole world out there especially when you’re a person of color. When you live in a town full of white people, they’re brainwashed into thinking that everything and everyone is okay because we have this blanket of security wrapped around us. In reality, it’s wrapped around the white kids and the kids of color are left to be mocked and have their identity washed down because their lifestyle and culture is funny and foreign. And the fact that they’re still being racists amazes me, the main idea of this issue is to point out blatant racial discrimination yet white kids are still continuing to poke fun at it. They’re thinking this is okay, next thing you know they’re going to be wearing niqabs and turbans and start making fun of western Asians. This is the world we live in, where racism is clearly visible to those it offends and equivocal to white people.
